Dorothy “Dot” Pannell-Martin, BS, MA

Dot started in school nutrition in 1961 as Director of Foodservice for Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools. She has taught at the University of Maryland, Prince George’s Community College and Northern Virginia Community College. She worked as supervisor and assistant director of School Food Services in Prince George’s County Public Schools. Dot saw a need for a textbook on managing a school nutrition program. In 1974, she wrote the first edition of School Foodservice and has since authored five other editions and other textbooks. The 6th edition was released in 2014. Dot has received the IFMA Silver Plate Award, the Pacesetter Award from Roundtable for Women in Foodservice, the Eagle award from the Association of School Business Officials, and she is a past FAME Award winner. She was active in the state nutrition association and became president of Maryland School Foodservice Association (today the Maryland SNA). She co-created inTEAM Associates and co-wrote the inTEAM Food System Management Manual. Today, Dot continues her work as a consultant to clients across the country. She is a lifetime achiever in school nutrition and the FAME committee is pleased honor to her.
